Padma Shri Ashish Bhaiya

Founder, karyakartā, and the quiet conscience behind Divya Prem Sewa Mission. A life surrendered to seva, recognised by the nation but lived among those society had forgotten.

— A Life of Seva

Divya Prem Sewa Mission Bhaiya Ji’s journey
to Chandighat.

“It is not a matter of pride for them, but it is a distinguished honour for us, that they have provided us an opportunity to serve them.”

Such are the golden thoughts that speak about the humility of the man who dedicated some of the best years of his life to serving the untouched, the needy, and the poor.

Ashish Gautam, known affectionately to the world as Ashish Bhaiya Ji, was born into a modest rural family in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh. From his early childhood he was drawn towards spiritualism and philosophy, but he was no ordinary person. He was a man with a vision to change the world he lived in, one quiet act of seva at a time.

A national honour,
received in silence.

In 2017, the Government of India conferred upon Ashish Bhaiya the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, for his decades of selfless social service.

He attended the Rashtrapati Bhavan ceremony in his usual white kurta. He returned to Haridwar that same evening and was at the community kitchen for dinner service. The next morning, the Sewa Kunj routine continued exactly as before. Aarti at sunrise. OPD at nine. Anna sewa at one.

Under his stewardship, a single rented room became Sewa Kunj. A small dispensary became a charitable hospital. A handful of orphan children became Vandematram Kunj. A dream became the only NAAC-accredited medical college in India built entirely on charitable donations.
